THE JOBS OF THE FUTURE

Razmišljanja učencev 9. razredov o poklicih v prihodnosti

In the past the number one way of choosing a carrier was how well it paid. Nowadays, more and more people are looking at how comfortable they will be doing that job for the next couple of years. With more and more manual labour jobs being done by robots, in ten years’ time education will be more important than ever.

In the past it was also common to have the same job as your parents, especially for farmers who had the property and tools for that job passed down to them. Now, most of young population is deciding on modern jobs such as programmers that will be needed in the future.

I am planning to be a programmer myself. I am already focusing more on school subjects most needed for that profession, such as Maths, and choosing a high school that focuses on this profession.

With us being on the peak of technological evolution, there is no doubt that there will be a lot more mechanics, programmers etc. in the future.

We could also see an update of the employment system. For a long time it’s been a face to face interview with an employer, but in the future we could simply apply for a job with an internet test, where you just sit behind your computer in search of a job offer, click a page, fill in some questions, and receive an e-mail a day or two later telling you if your application was accepted or denied.

Maybe some jobs will be terminated because companies can just use robots to replace people. We could also see a change in the schooling system like internet classes and examinations (a more effective home schooling method). Maybe everything stays the way it is. I don’t know.

I believe that in the past people chose their jobs not by themselves, but their parents chose them for them. Parents paid for the education and wanted their children to be priests, doctors, teachers … People didn’t have to worry that much about not finding a job because there weren’t that many educated people (only the rich could go to school and college). But nowadays we worry about a lot more than people did in the past. We have to think about how much it is going to cost to go to college and if we could find a job at all. There is another problem that some jobs don’t pay as good as others. That is why many people move out of Slovenia to foreign countries.

In the past it was much easier for teachers to find a job and they were respected much more. Now teachers struggle to find a job.

I think that in about 10 years’ time many jobs that we have now will be replaced by robots. We will also develop new things / ideas, so there will be many new jobs. I also think people will go to school longer and be more educated than we are now. Working hours will probably stay about the same.

I think that I am okay in school but I should try harder to be better in competitions. I spend less time on my phone. My attention spam is quite short so I should work on that. I’m thinking of going to college and maybe study languages to move to a foreign country and find a job there. But that probably won’t happen.

I really like biology, chemistry and languages. I hope to become a doctor or something that has to do with medicine.
